Multiverse (noun): theoretical reality that includes a possibly infinite number of parallel universes. [Merriam-Webster Dictionary]
The Universe is a single composite of all existing matter . . . or is it? Do we instead live on one universe that is a part of many universes, existing simultaneously and parallel to our own? The multiverse is the theoretical and inevitable consequence of the laws of quantum physics as we know them today. But the problem is, science has no way to test the theory.
Where science is limited, art steps in. In Constellations, playwright Nick Payne explores the contours of the multiverse, by following the relationship of two individuals, through multiple parallel universes. What remains constant through each iteration is the humanity of the characters and their ability to connect with one another in multiple, varying ways.
Constellations is “…a singular astonishment, at once eloquent and mysterious but which nonetheless articulates within its own idiosyncratic idiom something that touches an audience as real” - The New Yorker
Constellations is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
